One Laptop Per Child
The OLPC project provides computers and software to children of rural communities that will aid in their education and let them connect with the world around them. It is simple to help. Go to the web sites listed below and find out how you can contribute to this worthy project.
Paraguayuan children, like all children, are eager to learn and want to communicate and collaborate with other children. These laptops will enhance their education, increase their understanding of communities outside their own, and help them connect with the world.

Most Paraguayans speak Spanish and Guarani, the official languages of Paraguay. But there are roughly 20 indigenous tribes in Paraguay which speak at least 18 other languages and are somewhat cut off from participation in commerce, education, and employment due to language and cultural barriers.
Part of the OLPC project is developing software that teaches the children and breaks down barriers. Ideas like language programs where Indigenous Paraguayans can learn to communicate with their Spanish counterparts in the cities are important. They would help the rural indigenous tribes attend higher education in the city and help their own communities grow and develop in the rural areas. Better communication and education would create more job opportunities in the future, along with development and economic strength for indigenous communities who struggle to live in difficult conditions.
Many programs in Paraguay attempt to teach the indigenous skills and give them opportunities for work, but the needs are greater. They need good education to overcome language barriers. They need to build social, political and business connections with the city dwellers. They need to become a vital part of the economy, well-trained and educated, able to participate in community development and civic activities, and become part of the economic prosperity through industry and trade. They need to have a better future for their children.

The indigenous could contribute to the industry and growth of Paraguay with better education and communication skills. Hot political and economic issues are difficult to resolve quickly. However, no matter what their skin color, tribal association, or level of training, Paraguayans can and should come together for the mutual benefit of all.
Education is the key to accomplishing these goals - for all sides. Diversity initiatives, economic programs, fair and equal treatment of vendors both small and large, better government policies for legitimate tradesman will help as well. Most importantly, better policing of illegal trade activities which threaten the well-being of Paraguay's longterm economic development must be implemented.
